Zespół Pieśni i Tańca UŁ na arenie międzynarodowej

The Academic Song and Dance Ensemble of the University of Lodz "KUJON" doesn’t mess around. This time, the team's representative group went to two international festivals – "Paralia Summer Fest" in Olympic Beach, Greece and "Ohrid – City of Light" in Ohrid, Macedonia. The Balkan tour lasted from 7 to 19 July.

The purpose of the trip was to represent the University of Lodz, the city of Lodz and Poland on the international arena. "Kujon" presented itself on stages along with bands from m.in. Bulgaria, Slovakia, Turkey, Serbia and also met, and gained some new friends from Poland. The "Kujon"’s programme included dances from the vicinity of Sieradz and dances characteristic of Lachy Sądeckie.

During the festival there was time for everything – apart from dancing, the members of "Kujon" also had the opportunity to visit the famous Greek Meteora, go to the hot springs in Pozar or swim in the crystal-clear Aegean Sea. Macedonia welcomed them with exceptional food, the beauty of Ohrid's old town and the romantic atmosphere of Lake Ohrid.

During the trip, there was also a traditional festival baptism, which is attended by members who are present for the first time at a concert abroad. This time they couldn't have dreamed of a more beautiful place – a beach in Greece, and in the distance Mount Olympus, the home of the Twelve Olympian Gods.

From the artistic point of view, the band was prepared by the artistic director Marta Papis, and the ensemble was led by Ryszard Kruszyński. The trip to the festivals would not have taken place without the financial and spiritual support of the authorities of the University of Lodz.

After coming back, "Kujon" is taking a rest, but it won’t last long – on 10 September, the ensemble will dance at the Rose Festival in Kutno, and on 30 September, it will perform at the city's Autumn Welcoming organised as part of the "Zielona Łódź" project.
